Where We Work

Malaria is a serious disease caused by mosquito bites, but it can be prevented with simple actions. The most effective way to protect yourself is by sleeping under an insecticide-treated bed net (ITN) every night. These nets kill mosquitoes and stop them from biting you while you sleep. Wearing long sleeves and long pants during the evening and nighttime helps reduce bites. Applying mosquito repellent on your skin is also useful when you go outside. To protect the whole community, it is important to reduce mosquito breeding sites. Mosquitoes lay eggs in still water, so you should cover water containers, clean drains, throw away containers that hold rainwater, and keep your environment clean. Community health workers may also do Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS), which means spraying insecticide on the walls of houses to kill mosquitoes. Pregnant women and children are more at risk, so they should receive special protection and regular checkups. If someone has fever, chills, or headache, they should go for a malaria test immediately because early treatment saves lives. By combining personal protection, clean surroundings, community action, and early testing, malaria can be prevented and controlled effectively.
